Why should I get tested for STIs in Dublin?

If you are sexually active, you should undergo regular STD testing every 3 to 6 months. Doing so will keep you abreast of your sexual health status, allowing you to take action if needed.  With Better2Know your testing and appointment at any of our Dublin clinics is completely confidential.  We do not need to know your real name.  Getting tested regularly is important, even if you do not feel ill. Even if you are infected, you may not experience symptoms. Getting tested is the only way to know if you have an STI.

While millions of people worldwide contract sexually transmitted infections every day, most are easily treatable. However, untreated sexually transmitted diseases can cause significant health issues, including fertility problems, chronic pain, organ damage, and increased vulnerability to other infections. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of your infection will help you avoid the worst effects of any STI you may get.

Do you offer HIV testing in Dublin?

Better2Know offers two different HIV tests at our sexual health clinics in Dublin:

  • 10-day HIV test: Take this test just 10 days after an incident of concern. It detects the presence of the HIV-1 virus in your blood.
  • 28-day HIV test: This test is the gold standard for testing for HIV. It combines tests for HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies, along with the p24 antigen. This test remains 99.8?curate 28 days after the initial infection.

We know getting HIV can be very concerning. But HIV is very treatable, and most people who have it end up living long, healthy lives with the right care. Most cases of HIV can be managed with antiretroviral therapy.

To ensure you get the right HIV test for your circumstances, speak to a member of our Dublin team at the number at the top of this page. Remember that you are not alone, and the first step towards securing your health is to know your HIV status by booking your blood test.

Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in Dublin, commonly transmitted through unprotected vaginal, anal, and oral sex and other forms of sexual contact. Chlamydia can have lasting impacts on fertility if left untreated. Having Chlamydia can also make it more likely that you will contract other STIs, like HIV.  Therefore, it is important to get tested the moment you think you have been exposed to an STI. Better2Know uses PCR testing on urine samples to detect the presence of Chlamydia bacteria.

My partner may have an STI. Will I get it?

Having sex involves taking a risk. You may expose yourself to an infection, especially if you begin a sexual relationship with a new partner that has not been tested.  If your sexual partner has an STI, there is no guarantee that you will become infected. However, it is best to seek testing if you are uncertain about their sexual health status.  If you find out that your partner has an STI, it is crucial to stop all sexual activity and seek STI testing and treatment immediately for both you and your partner.
