  • Gonorrhoea

  • Ureaplasma

Should I stop having sex if I am worried about sexually transmitted infections?

If you have reason to believe you have a sexually transmitted infection, for instance, if you have had unprotected sex, begun a new sexual relationship, or are experiencing symptoms of an STI, you should stop having sex. If you are infected, having sex will increase the chance that you will pass your infection on to someone else.

To protect your sexual health and the health of those you care about, get tested for STIs with Better2Know today. Choose a clinic in Letterkenney on the map on this page and select a test or screen that suits your needs.

How soon can HIV be detected on a blood test?

Better2Know offers two specialised HIV testing options tailored to your needs:

  • 10-Day HIV Test: This test can be administered just 10 days after potential exposure, detecting the presence of the HIV-1 virus in your blood sample.
  • 28-Day HIV Test: For a more comprehensive evaluation, this test is available 28 days post-exposure. It screens for HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies as well as the p24 antigen, providing an accuracy rate of 99.8%.

To determine the most appropriate HIV test for your situation, please contact our Letterkenny team using the number provided at the top of this page. You may choose to undergo an HIV test alone or as part of our extensive STI screening packages.

Can Gonorrhoea be cured?

Gonorrhoea is a curable condition. Most cases can be identified with a single urine sample and effectively treated with a short course of antibiotics.  However there are some strains of Gonorrhoea which cannot be cured.  If you test positive for Gonorrhoea you should have another Gonorrhoea test two weeks after you have finished your medication.

If you test positive for Gonorrhoea with Better2Know, we will arrange a confidential consultation with a private doctor. During this consultation, you can discuss your infection, treatment options, and strategies to protect your sexual health.

Do not delay getting tested, the longer you wait, the more harm the infection can cause. Select a clinic in Letterkenney from the map on this page to book your appointment and receive the necessary treatment for Gonorrhoea.

When will I get the results from my STI tests?

After your samples are collected at your Better2Know clinic, they are sent to our certified laboratory for analysis. Most test results are available within one to five working days of our lab receiving your sample.

Once your results are ready, they will be uploaded to your secure online Patient Area, which you can access using your unique login details. During the booking process, you can also receive notifications of your results via text message or email.

If you test positive, we will arrange a private consultation with a Better2Know doctor. Your doctor will be able to answer any questions you have about your condition and help you access any medication and care you will need.
