What is Gliadin?
Gliadin is a protein present in gluten, which is found in grains such as barley, rye, and wheat. Gluten intolerance is a sign of Coeliac Disease.
People with Coeliac disease or genetic predispositions to gluten allergies experience an immune response once Gliadin enters their systems. Their bodies view gluten as a foreign substance and produces antibodies to attack it as though fighting off an infection. This causes inflammation and long-term damage to the small intestine, which can result in poor nutrition absorption.
Coeliacs can suffer from many symptoms, including:
- Diarrhoea
- Bloating
- Unexplained weight loss
- Flatulence or excess wind
Since Gliadin can appear for reasons unrelated to gluten intolerance, this test is often taken in conjunction with the TTA IgA test for more accurate results.
Why consider a Gliadin Antibody test?
The Gliadin Antibody test identifies the presence of gliadin antibodies, which can help diagnose Coeliac Disease. This test in conjunction with the TTA IgA test will help you diagnose and treat Coeliac Disease if you have symptoms or a family history of it.
Explain the Better2Know home test process?
The test kit includes a blood sample, three finger prick lancets, antiseptic skin wipes, a blood collection tube, a pre-paid postage envelope, and a pathology form. Using these tools, you will take your blood sample and send it to our accredited Ireland lab for efficient and accurate analysis.
When will the home test kit arrive?
If you order your test kit before 4pm Monday-Friday, Better2Know sends the kit out on the same day via An Post. Your kit should reach you in 2 to 4 days. A Special Delivery upgrade is available at checkout.
How do I receive my test results?
Within two workdays after our lab receives your sample, your results are ready and a member of our Patient Services team contacts you directly to discuss our findings. In addition, our secure patient portal will be updated with the results as soon as they become available. You may check this portal online at our website at any time.
What should I do with my results?
If your results indicate the presence of antibodies issued in response to the Gliadin protein, Better2Know can help you arrange a private consultation through our network of skilled doctors throughout Ireland. Q: When will you send my kit to me?
If your order is placed before 4pm on a working day, then it will be sent the same day. Otherwise it will be sent on the next working day.
Q: Why do you need my email address?
Your Patient Services Manager, Louise Wright, will email you your login details to access your results, a confirmation your kit has been dispatched and finally when all your results are ready. We do not sell on or email you any other marketing materials, that is why we do not ask you to opt in or out of anything.
Q: Do I need to use my real name?
No, but the postman does need to know where to deliver the kit to. As long as you use a name that will get the kit to you, then we do not need your real name.
Q: What does the kit packaging look like?
It will arrive in plain white envelope with your typed name and address on it.
Q: What if I have any more questions?
You can email Louise by replying to one of the emails she has sent to you. She will do her best to answer them.
